Long Tail SEO

When it comes to getting traffic to websites, most amateur webmasters will immediately go for the highest traffic and highest competition keywords.  However, there are a lot of problems with that strategy.  The first being that it’s very difficult to rank well for the highest competition keywords.   A far better strategy to getting traffic is to aim for the “low hanging fruit” and use the principles of long tail search engine optimization.   With long tail search engine optimization you aim for the low traffic keywords, but you aim for a lot of them.  What you’ll find is that while each individual keyword doesn’t bring in a great deal of traffic, when added together there is a heck of a lot of traffic available – in some cases more traffic than you could get by being at the top for the highest competition keyword.
