Midas
Midas muffler shops are known nationally for their service and quality care of automobiles. Their advertisements can be seen nationwide and appear to be a dependable service company to the public. The name Midas is referred back to King Midas of Phrygia. He is known as the greedy fool who asks Bacchus to grant him the magic gift of turning everything that he touches to gold. He first thinks that this is a great gift and runs around turning all sorts of items into gold, while dreaming of his riches to come. Soon, the foolish king grows thirsty and hungry and attempts to ingest food and drink. Unfortunately, he finds out the true nature of his gift as everything he ingests turns to gold as well. Probably near starving, he returns to Bacchus and the golden touch is removed after a lesson well earned. In this sense, he had the golden touch and the Midas repair shop has since adopted this motto for a “golden touch” in the repairing of cars.
