A wonderful foliage for flower arrangements
A wonderful foliage for larger flower arrangements is the intriguing willow Salix Babylonica Tortuosa. This is a fast growing tree with slender upright branches. Grows easily in any moist soil in sun and is fully hardy. Grows well away from buildings and in a small garden can be grown in a container. Very easily propagated from cuttings in damp soil or in water.
The trunk itself is quite short at 5′ - 6′ but the gently twisting branches twigs and leaves bring its total height to 15′. These measurements are based upon my own examples which are constantly having bits chopped off. Apart from being very pretty when in leaf the bare branches are also very useful in construction work. Hopefully your flower arranging kit contains some paper covered wire which is ideal for binding stems together almost invisibly.
